09-01-2017

MPEA General Meeting   September 1, 2017   Attendance:  member list passed around to initial (and check home email addresses)   President’s Report, Danielle Mastrogiovanni (unable to attend) Laurie Schorno reported on Danielle’s behalf:
  • Welcome back to school!  And welcome to our new members!
  • Thank you, HSA, for the breakfast!

  • Chairs/co-chairs of committees were introduced and individually thanked
  • Friendly reminder - NJEA is a powerful influence on all other unions; many, many others look to NJEA to see what they should be like
  • Please keep an eye on your prescription costs; there have been some issues with the new plan - AmeriHealth; please email Amy Barkman to let her know and cc Danielle; we need the documentation if we ever were to start a class action grievance
  • Back to School Nights already quickly approaching (Mt. Way’s Thurs., Sept. 14th; Borough’s Thurs. Sept. 28th); we will have an MPEA table (Danielle has goodies to put out) to show our pride in public education; Felicia, Amy, and Laurie volunteered to head the table for Mt. Way’s and Gary and Sara volunteered to do Borough’s - thank you, volunteers!; thinking to have the table for the first hour of the night
  • Scheduled General Meeting dates for 2017-2018 (Thursdays):
    • Sept. 1, Oct. 12, Feb. 15,  May 17, End of Year Celebration TBD
Monica Crudele reported on the new policy for class/credit reimbursement from our new contract:
  • “First come first serve” is set for reimbursement;  class approval does NOT count towards first come first serve
  • They can approve the class, but it’s when your paperwork i.e. grade is submitted for reimbursement is when “first come first serve” applies - these papers are time stamped
  • We can be reimbursed up to 9 credits per year
  • Last year $18,000 was reimbursed; our cap with new contract is $22,000
Committee Reports: (most committees have not met yet; therefore, no report)

    • Treasurer’s Report in MPEA Google folder and shared through email
